Your Guilt Is Lying to You

Feel Ashamed to the Core? God Says You Can Start Over Today

By Steven Jones

“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

Psalm 16:8 (NIV)

If you feel crushed by regret or stuck in a habit you know is wrong, you are not beyond mercy. Keep your eyes on the Lord—He will steady you when shame and fear try to shake you.

Why Regret Hurts So Deeply

  • National polling shows fewer than half of U.S. adults report being “very satisfied” with their lives (near series lows). Source: Gallup, 2024.
  • About 1 in 5 U.S. adults (59.3M) lives with a mental illness each year. Source: NIMH.
  • Feelings of loneliness and detachment are widespread; about half of U.S. adults report measurable loneliness. Source: U.S. Surgeon General, 2023.

When regret takes over, self-worth sinks. We think, “I’ve already failed—might as well keep failing.” But God’s Word breaks that lie.

The Spiral: From One Sin to Another

Shame says, “You are what you did.” Truth says, “You are who God says you are.” The longer we justify sin, the deeper the spiral becomes—porn, lust, adultery, drunkenness, substance addiction, or crushing habits that aren’t substance-related at all.

Good news: you can “stop, drop, and roll” right now—stop running, drop the excuses, and roll every burden onto Jesus.

God’s Way Out (Read It. Believe It. Walk It.)

Your Battle God’s Word Response
Guilt & shame after failure

“Si reconocemos nuestros pecados, Dios, que es fiel y justo, nos los perdonará y nos limpiará de toda maldad.”

1 John 1:9

Confess it. Receive full forgiveness. Start fresh today.
Justifying what you know is wrong

“Si pecamos deliberadamente, después de haber recibido el conocimiento de la verdad, ya no queda sacrificio por los pecados.”

Hebrews 10:26

Stop rationalizing. Repent now—don’t harden your heart.
Feeling worthless

“Nada podrá separarnos del amor de Dios que está en Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor.”

Romans 8:38–39

Your value isn’t your record; it’s His love. Believe it.
Repeated temptation

“Someteos, pues, a Dios; resistid al diablo, y él huirá de vosotros.”

James 4:7

Submit to God, resist again, and keep resisting. He will flee.
Backsliding into old patterns

“For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.”

Galatians 2:18 (KJV)

If you’ve rebuilt what you once tore down, take it down again—today.
Crushed by yesterday

“El gran amor del Señor nunca se acaba… cada mañana se renuevan sus misericordias.”

Lamentations 3:22–23

God’s mercy resets every sunrise. Take the reset.

You’re Not Alone—And You’re Not Disqualified

From Steven Jones: In my own walk I have stumbled HARD many times. But every time I returned, Jesus met me with mercy and new strength. The same grace is for you.

If you fall again, come back again. Keep coming. We will pray with you, walk with you, and connect you with help.

About Therapy Costs & Why Many People Hesitate

Therapy can be genuinely helpful—but it’s also expensive for many families. Recent roundups estimate about $100–$250 per session in the U.S., often requiring multiple sessions (Octave, 2025; state averages range roughly $122–$227 per session, SimplePractice).

At the same time, public trust in health care and medical science has declined since the pandemic (Pew Research, 2023; JAMA Network Open, 2024). Many Americans also believe drug company profits are a major driver of high costs (KFF, 2024 and KFF, 2023).

We’re not saying those perceptions prove motive. We are saying: if cost or distrust has kept you from reaching out, we’re here to listen and pray—at the cost of $0 (or your money back!) We actually care, and we can help you take the next step with Jesus.

Note: Pastoral care is not a legal substitute for licensed medical treatment. If you are in crisis, seek professional help immediately—call local emergency services or your national hotline. You can reach out to us too if you don’t know where to begin.

Next Steps (Right Now)

  1. Repent first: Speak plainly to God. Name the sin. Ask His forgiveness (1 John 1:9).
  2. Submit & resist: Surrender to God; resist the devil (James 4:7). Repeat as often as needed.
  3. Reach out: Send us a confidential prayer request. We will listen, pray, and when possible connect you with resources.
  4. Return daily: Open Scripture each morning and pray Psalm 16:8—“With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

Prayer of Repentance, Deliverance & Surrender

Father, I repent. I have sinned and tried to justify it. I turn from my ways and run to You. By the blood of Jesus Christ, forgive me and cleanse me. Break every chain—pornography, lust, adultery, drunkenness, drugs, or any habit that rules me. Silence the lies that say I’m worthless. Fill me with Your Spirit. With You at my right hand, I will not be shaken. I choose Your ways, Your truth, and Your life. In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.

If this helped you, it can help someone else—please share. You are family here. If you need prayer or a confidential conversation with a leader, reach out. Sometimes we can connect you with immediate resources as well. God’s grace is bigger than your regret, shame, guilt, and sin. Come on now—we love you. God bless you.
