Wait!

Do It Right, or Do It Again — The Power of Patience

Psalm 27:14 (NIV) • UponThisRock.Church

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
— Psalm 27:14 (NIV)

Patience is one of the hardest things for us to master. We want results now, answers now, success now. But anything worth having takes time. All good things come with patience — and as we’ve learned, there are only two ways to do things: the right way, or again.

When God tells you to wait, it’s not punishment — it’s preparation. Waiting builds character, strengthens faith, and teaches trust. Rushing only builds regret.

Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NIV)
“The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.”

🌿 Patience — A Fruit of the Spirit

The Lord is incredibly patient with all of us — individually and collectively. He sees our mistakes, our stubbornness, our wandering hearts — and yet, He waits. He doesn’t give up on us. That same patience is what He expects us to show toward others and toward His timing.

Galatians 5:22–23 (NIV)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

When you let patience grow in your life, you begin to reflect God’s heart. He’s slow to anger, quick to forgive, and rich in love. His patience is not weakness — it’s power under control.

2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

⌛ Modern Life — The Culture of Hurry

Our world is addicted to speed. Fast food, one-day shipping, instant likes, same-day results. We don’t wait anymore — we refresh, reload, and replace. But in doing so, we lose depth, gratitude, and faith.

Studies show that impatience is literally rewiring our brains. According to a Microsoft study, the average human attention span dropped from 12 seconds in 2000 to about 8 seconds today — shorter than a goldfish’s. We’ve become so used to instant gratification that waiting feels like suffering.

Yet, research from Harvard Business Review shows that people who practice delayed gratification — who choose long-term rewards over short-term pleasure — report 20–30% higher life satisfaction and success. God knew this long before science caught up: patience leads to blessing.

Proverbs 14:29 (NIV)
“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”

Patience is the proof of maturity — it shows that you trust God more than your timeline.

🔥 When You Wait, God Works

Think about this: David waited years to become king. Joseph waited in prison before leading Egypt. Abraham waited decades for Isaac. And Jesus waited 30 years before starting His public ministry. If the Son of God could wait, what makes us think we can’t?

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Every time you choose patience, Heaven notices. Every moment you resist reacting in the flesh, the Spirit grows stronger in you. Waiting isn’t passive — it’s an act of worship, faith, and self-control.

Lamentations 3:25–26 (NIV)
“The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

🛡️ Resist the Enemy — He Will Flee

When impatience whispers, “Do it your way,” that’s not faith talking — that’s the enemy. The devil wants you rushed, restless, and reckless. But the Word tells us how to win:

James 4:7 (NIV)
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Patience is warfare. Every time you choose to wait instead of worry, you resist the enemy and strengthen your faith. Every time you say “not my will but Yours,” you win a battle in the unseen.

🙏 Final Prayer of Repentance, Deliverance, and Surrender

Father, we repent for our impatience and our need for control. Deliver us from rushing ahead of Your will. Teach us to wait on You — in peace, in faith, and in confidence. Give us patience with others, with ourselves, and with Your perfect timing. Strengthen our hearts, Lord, and help us resist the enemy when he tempts us to move without You. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we surrender every plan to Your hands. Amen.
