Unity or Collapse: A Nation Divided Cannot Stand

9/12: A Call to Unity, Reflection, and Prayer

September 12th, 2001 — the day after one of the darkest days in American history. The attacks of 9/11 shook our nation to its core, but what followed was a wave of unity. Strangers embraced, communities stood together, and the overwhelming response was compassion, forgiveness, and resilience. We cannot begin to imagine the terror and horror experienced by those who did not survive, but we can honor them by reflecting on the importance of unity today.

Jesus Himself warned us: “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.”

Observations and Speculations

Many still believe that 9/11 was an inside job, with conferences and investigations continuing to raise questions (source). More recently, the tragic political assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10th, 2025, has led to speculation that it was orchestrated by someone with professional training (source). Whether one agrees with these claims or not, 9/12 remains a day to reflect, observe, and pray.

The Power of Unity

The Bible reminds us that “in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Look at what we can achieve when united:

  • Americans came together after 9/11 to rebuild, comfort, and strengthen one another.
  • World War II efforts showed how unity across industries and communities produced overwhelming victory.
  • The Civil Rights Movement, despite hardships, advanced justice because people united in courage.

But unity without humility can be dangerous. History also shows us:

  • The fall of Rome, where corruption and division eroded a once-powerful empire.
  • The rise of tyrants like Hitler, who manipulated unity for evil and destruction.
  • Corruption in modern governments where powerful figures exploit unity for personal gain.

This is why we must surrender our unity to Christ, avoiding corrupt thoughts, speech, and actions. “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

Challenges Facing Americans Today

We must unite, because division only makes our struggles heavier:

  • Financial: 61% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck (LendingClub, 2023).
  • Mental Health: 1 in 5 adults struggles with a mental illness (NIMH).
  • Community: Nearly half of Americans report feeling lonely regularly (Cigna, 2023).

Biblical solutions provide hope:

Personal Reflection

Don’t compare your life to others — comparison is the thief of joy. Instead, reflect on your blessings: You have life. You have air in your lungs. You have vision if you’re reading this, and hearing if you’re listening to this. Praise God for what you do have, and let Him lead you forward in humility.

Final Prayer

Heavenly Father, we surrender our pride and division before You. Forgive us for comparing ourselves to others and for the times we’ve let offense divide us. We repent of our sins, our selfishness, and our corrupt thoughts. Deliver us from evil, restore our unity, and make us one nation under God again. We choose today to reflect, to unite, and to walk humbly with You. In Jesus’ name — Amen.
