Sometimes You’ve Gotta Pause Everything and Tune In With the Lord
UponThisRock.Church • Ministry Update & Devotional
Family, before we share today’s message, we want to start with gratitude. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this ministry — whether you’ve prayed, volunteered, donated, or simply encouraged us along the way. You’re part of something God is using to change lives every day.
From Wednesday, October 22 through Saturday, October 26, my wife and I stepped away on a couples retreat — a time to slow down, refocus, and tune in to the voice of God. During that time, all posting, pantry operations, and general communication were paused.
It wasn’t about disconnecting from people — it was about reconnecting with the One who called us in the first place.
We’re happy to say we’re back, refreshed, and ready to move forward with new direction from the Lord. Stay tuned for new pickup zones and volunteer opportunities coming soon. God is growing this mission, and we’re grateful to do it together.
⏸️ Sometimes You Have to Pause to Hear Clearly
We live in a noisy world. Notifications, work, and daily pressures can drown out the whisper of God’s voice. But sometimes, the most spiritual thing you can do is stop. Not quit — just pause long enough to listen.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
Even Jesus took time away from the crowds to pray. Before every major decision, miracle, or moment, He withdrew to spend time with His Father. That’s not weakness — that’s wisdom. Because power flows from presence.
Luke 5:16 (NIV)
When you pause to tune in, God tunes out your distractions and realigns your direction.
📡 Tune In Before You Burn Out
Burnout doesn’t happen because you’re doing too much — it happens when you’re doing it without refilling from the Source. Even serving, preaching, or giving can drain you if you don’t stop to recharge in God’s presence.
Matthew 11:28–29 (NIV)
We can’t pour out what we don’t have. So instead of pushing harder, God sometimes calls us to pull away. To refocus. To remember that it’s His will, not our work, that changes lives.
John 15:4–5 (NIV)
🙏 Thank Him While You Can
Sometimes, the pause is not for correction — it’s for gratitude. It’s God’s way of saying, “Stop striving for a minute and just thank Me.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NIV)
When you thank Him, even in silence, your heart resets. Gratitude opens your ears to Heaven. Worry fades, and peace returns. You start to see that every blessing — even the small ones — was a sign that God never left your side.
⚡ Refocus and Return Stronger
If God has been calling you to step back, don’t feel guilty — feel grateful. It means He’s not done with you. He’s getting ready to release something new, and He needs your full attention to prepare you for it.
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
Resting in God doesn’t slow your mission — it sustains it. The strongest warriors are the ones who know when to stop and hear from the Commander.
🙏 Final Prayer of Repentance, Renewal, and Surrender
Father God, thank You for teaching us the beauty of slowing down. We repent for running without listening and for trying to carry what only You can handle. Help us pause long enough to hear You again. Fill our hearts with gratitude and restore our strength. Let every pause bring purpose, and every moment of stillness reveal Your will. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we surrender and rest in You. Amen.
