The Prophecy That’s Being Fulfilled Right Now… And How You’re Part of It

Great Commission New to Faith Matthew 28:18–20

Go, Grow, and Know: The Great Commission in Plain Words

Matthew 28:18–20 (ESV)
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

What this means (even if you’re brand-new to church)

Jesus is the King (He has all authority). He sends ordinary people like us to share His good news, help others follow Him, and teach the way He lived and loved. And He promises to be with us the whole time. Simple, bold, beautiful.

The 5 parts, super simple

  • Go — Be available. Wherever you are becomes your mission field.
  • Make disciples — Not just “converts.” Walk with people as they grow.
  • Baptize — A public “yes” to Jesus; bury the old life, rise new.
  • Teach to obey — Learn Jesus’ words and actually live them.
  • Trust His presence — “I am with you always.” You’re not alone.

Real-life snapshot: Is this actually happening?

Yes. Around the world, the message of Jesus is spreading every day. You’ll find followers of Jesus in every country, the Bible available in thousands of languages, and vibrant new churches especially across sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia. God is moving—quietly in some places, explosively in others.

Big idea: This isn’t a dead mission statement from history. It’s a living movement you can join right now.

Biblical solutions (that actually change lives)

  • Hope for guilt & shame: Jesus forgives and makes us new (1 John 1:9).
  • Freedom from fear: Perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18).
  • Strength for everyday life: Ask and receive the Holy Spirit’s power (Acts 1:8).
  • Healing for relationships: Forgive as you are forgiven (Matthew 6:12; Ephesians 4:32).
  • Purpose for your future: Follow Jesus’ way; help others do the same (Matthew 28:19–20).

Prophecy in motion

“This gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” — Matthew 24:14

From the first disciples to today’s translators, missionaries, creators, parents, and friends, the message is reaching every tribe and language (see Revelation 7:9–10). The Great Commission isn’t just a command—it’s a prophecy unfolding in our lifetime.

How to start (even if you feel unqualified)

1Say “yes” to Jesus. Trust Him as Lord and Savior. Talk to Him honestly—He hears.

2Get a simple reading plan. Try this: John (meet Jesus), then Matthew 5–7 (His teaching), then Acts 1–2 (how it all launched).

3Find community. A Bible-believing church, a small group, or a friend who follows Jesus.

4Be baptized. It’s your public “I belong to Jesus now” moment.

5Share what you learn. You don’t need to know everything—share what you do know.

Why this is worth your whole life

Jesus doesn’t just offer new ideas—He offers a new heart, a new family, and a forever-future. When He says, “I am with you always,” He means in the kitchen, at work, in traffic, in grief, in laughter. He sends you, then walks with you. That’s good news.

Prayer of Repentance, Deliverance & Surrender

Lord Jesus Christ, I believe You have all authority in heaven and on earth. I admit I have gone my own way. I repent of my sins and I turn to You.

Forgive me, cleanse me, and make me new. Deliver me from fear, shame, and anything that holds me back. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Teach me to follow You, to be baptized, to obey Your words, and to help others follow You too. I surrender my life to Your mission. Thank You for being with me—always—until the end of the age. In Your mighty Name, Amen.
