Christ Is Enough
Why Jesus is not one piece of the answer — He is the answer (Colossians 2)
Colossians chapter 2 confronts one of the biggest problems people face today.
People are constantly searching for something more. More knowledge. More spirituality. More experiences. More rules. More systems.
But the apostle Paul makes something very clear: if you have Christ, you already have everything you truly need.
The Treasure Hidden in Christ
“…that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.”
Think about that.
All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Christ.
The world tells people they must search everywhere for truth — philosophy, trends, influencers, ideologies, systems.
But Scripture says the real treasure has already been revealed: Jesus Christ.
Do Not Be Deceived
“Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elemental spirits of the world, and not after Christ.”
This warning is just as relevant today as when Paul first wrote it.
People can be taken captive by ideas. Not just chains — ideas.
Ideas that sound intelligent. Ideas that sound spiritual. Ideas that sound progressive.
But if they are not rooted in Christ, they eventually lead people away from truth.
The Fullness of God Lives in Christ
“For in him all the fullness of the Deity dwells bodily, and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power.”
Jesus is not lacking anything.
The fullness of God lives in Him.
And when we come to Christ, we are made complete in Him.
This means our identity, purpose, and security do not come from the approval of people, the success of our plans, or the strength of our performance.
They come from being united with Christ.
The Debt of Sin Was Cancelled
“You, being dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us. He has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.”
This is one of the most powerful images in the New Testament.
Every sin. Every failure. Every moment of rebellion.
All of it was nailed to the cross with Christ.
The record of debt against us was cancelled.
Not because we earned forgiveness, but because Jesus paid the price.
Do Not Return to Empty Religion
“If you died with Christ from the elemental spirits of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances: ‘Don’t handle, nor taste, nor touch,’ all of which perish with use, after the precepts and doctrines of men?”
Paul warns believers not to fall back into empty religious systems.
Rules by themselves cannot transform the heart.
Human traditions cannot replace the power of Christ.
Real transformation happens when people walk daily with Jesus.
Walk in Christ
“As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him, rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
The Christian life is not just about believing something once.
It is about walking in Christ every day.
Rooted in Him. Built up in Him. Established in Him.
When Christ becomes the center of our lives, everything else begins to fall into its proper place.
The Invitation
If you feel spiritually exhausted from trying to figure everything out on your own, Colossians 2 offers simple but powerful truth:
- Christ is enough.
- Christ forgives.
- Christ completes what we cannot.
- Christ leads us into real life.
Stop searching everywhere else. Come to Christ.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for being the fullness of truth and life. Forgive us for the times we search for meaning in everything except you. Help us walk rooted and grounded in you every day. Teach us to trust you completely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Grow in faith. Study the Bible. Walk with Christ.
