You Ran Well — Who Stopped You?
Galatians 5:7 (NKJV)
“You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?”
1) You were doing great… what happened?
Life has a way of knocking people off course. Paul wrote this to believers who started strong but got distracted by lies, pride, sin, or pressure from others. He’s not scolding them—he’s reminding them. They were running well. God saw their progress, but something—or someone—cut in on their race.
Today, the same thing happens. You get fired up for God, then you get tired, busy, tempted, or discouraged. Maybe you made a mistake and thought you couldn’t come back from it. But here’s the truth: no matter how bad you goof up, you can God up. Let Him carry you back out of the mess.
2) That kind of convincing doesn’t come from God
Galatians 5:8 continues: “That kind of persuasion does not come from the One who calls you.” In other words, if you’re hearing voices of guilt, shame, or “you’re too far gone,” that’s not God. Conviction draws you closer. Condemnation pushes you away.
Jesus said in John 10:27–28: “My sheep hear my voice… and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” The devil loves to whisper, “You failed.” But God says, “I still have plans for you.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
3) Scripture reminders when you fall
- Proverbs 24:16: “Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.”
- Psalm 37:23–24: “Though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.”
- Isaiah 43:2: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”
- Micah 7:8: “Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.”
- Romans 8:1: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
God isn’t done with you. If He was done, you wouldn’t be reading this right now. The fact that you’re here proves He’s calling you back.
4) What’s stopping people today?
Just like in Galatia, the modern world is full of distractions and false teaching. People follow trends instead of truth. We’ve replaced conviction with comfort and called it love.
- Social media: Studies show the average person spends over 2 hours a day scrolling (Statista, 2024).
- Stress & anxiety: Over 30% of Americans report daily anxiety symptoms (CDC, 2024).
- Isolation: The U.S. Surgeon General declared a “loneliness epidemic” in 2023—equal to smoking 15 cigarettes a day (HHS.gov).
- Sin normalization: Wrong is called right; truth is “offensive.” (Isaiah 5:20)
All of these make it harder to focus on God. But Philippians 1:6 reminds us—He who began the work will finish it.
5) How to get back up again
- 1. Confess. Be honest with God. He already knows. (1 John 1:9)
- 2. Surrender. Hand the mess over. Stop trying to fix it yourself. (Psalm 55:22)
- 3. Obey. Trust His Word even when it’s hard. (Proverbs 3:5–6)
- 4. Fellowship. Get around other believers. Iron sharpens iron. (Hebrews 10:25)
- 5. Keep running. God’s not asking for perfection, just perseverance. (Hebrews 12:1–2)
God doesn’t throw away broken runners—He restores them. David messed up. Peter denied Jesus. Paul persecuted the church. Yet each one came back stronger.
🙏 Final Prayer — Repentance, Deliverance, and Surrender
Father, I come to You just as I am. I’ve fallen, wandered, or grown cold—but today, I run back to You. Forgive me for letting sin, pride, or distraction get in the way. Deliver me from every chain, every lie, every fear. Restore my heart and renew my fire. I surrender my will and my ways to You. I will run again—with You leading the way. In Jesus Christ’s mighty name, amen.
