Do you?

Do You Really Love Jesus? Or Just Say You Do?

John 14:23 (ESV)
Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

The Truth We Don’t Like to Admit

So many of us say we believe in God. In fact, surveys show that about 63% of Americans identify as Christians (Pew Research, 2023). Yet only around 25% actually attend church weekly, and far fewer actively read or apply the Bible in daily life. Numbers don’t lie — many profess faith, but their lives don’t match up.

Jesus made it clear: if we love Him, we will keep His word. Love is not just words. It’s obedience. He also said in Luke 6:46: “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?”

Shall We Go On Sinning?

We live in a culture where sin is normalized, even celebrated. Statistics show that over 70% of adults view pornography at least once a month, 1 in 5 adults battle substance abuse, and greed, gossip, and dishonesty are treated as normal parts of life. But God’s Word says otherwise.

Romans 6:1-2: “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?”

Grace is not permission to sin. Grace is power to overcome sin. Titus 2:11-12 reminds us: “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.”

Check Your Posture

This isn’t about perfection—it’s about direction. Where are you headed? Toward God, or away from Him? The Bible warns in 2 Corinthians 13:5: “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.”

Practical step: ask yourself if your habits, choices, and words line up with Jesus’ teachings. If not, repent. Turn back. God doesn’t want excuses; He wants obedience.

Biblical Solutions to Today’s Broken Culture

  • Problem: People claim faith but live unchanged lives.
Solution: Live as doers, not just hearers of the Word. James 1:22: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

  • Problem: Temptation feels overwhelming.
Solution: Remember God provides a way out. 1 Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape.”

  • Problem: Love of the world pulls us away from God.
Solution: Redirect your love to the Father. 1 John 2:15: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

  • Problem: Fear of rejection or ridicule for living godly.
Solution: Remember God’s presence. Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

A Call Back Home

Jesus promises that if you love Him and keep His word, the Father will love you, and both will make their home with you. That’s intimacy. That’s presence. That’s the peace this world cannot give. Why trade that for temporary pleasure or empty distractions?

Prayer of Repentance, Deliverance, and Surrender

Pray this from your heart:

Lord Jesus Christ, I come before You today realizing I’ve said I love You, but my actions haven’t always matched my words. I repent for every time I’ve chosen sin over Your Word. I renounce every lie of the enemy that tells me grace is a license to disobey. I surrender my heart, mind, and soul to You completely.

Deliver me from every chain, every temptation, and every sin that tries to control me. Wash me clean with Your blood. Fill me with Your Spirit. Align my life with Your Word. From this day forward, I choose to love You not only with my lips, but with my obedience.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.

Now go and live it. Don’t just say you love Jesus—prove it by keeping His word.
