Do the twist

Isaiah 3 is not just ancient history. It is a mirror. God exposes what happens to a people who reject His ways, twist His design, and then get angry when anyone dares to tell the truth.

Isaiah 3: God’s Case Against a Twisted Society

Isaiah 3:11–12 (NIV)
“Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them!
They will be paid back for what their hands have done.

Youths oppress my people, women rule over them.
My people, your guides lead you astray;
they turn you from the path.”

In Isaiah 3, God lays out the charges against Judah and Jerusalem. They were still “God’s people” by name, but their hearts, their culture, and their leadership were in open rebellion.

God warns that He will remove the “stay and staff” — the supports of their society. Food, water, heroes, warriors, judges, prophets, elders, skilled workers, wise counselors… all of it would be shaken. What would rise up in their place? Immaturity, confusion, and chaos.

Instead of solid, humble leaders, they would have unstable, self-absorbed ones. Instead of respect, there would be disrespect. Instead of order, there would be disorder.

What Was Happening Then

Isaiah paints a picture of a nation that looks religious on the outside but is rotten on the inside:

  • Leadership collapse: The Lord takes away strong, godly leaders and allows childish, impulsive rulers to take their place (Isaiah 3:1–4).
  • Disrespect and rebellion: “People will oppress each other—man against man, neighbor against neighbor. The young will rise up against the old” (see Isaiah 3:5).
  • Role confusion: Verse 12 shows a picture of leadership and order turned upside down: those who should guide are misleading; those who should follow are ruling from feelings instead of truth.
  • Public sin with no shame: “They parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them!” (Isaiah 3:9).

They wanted God’s name, God’s benefits, and God’s protection—but rejected God’s order, God’s holiness, and God’s truth.

What Is Happening Now

You don’t have to squint very hard to see the parallels.

We live in a generation that has criss-crossed God’s natural and holy order and replaced it with twisted, tortured ideas. God’s design for family, gender, sexuality, authority, and morality has been mocked, redefined, and flipped upside down.

And when you call a spade a spade—when you simply say, “This is sin. This is confusion. This is not what God designed”—you are quickly labeled:

  • “Misogynistic” for honoring God’s design for men and women.
  • “Racist” for refusing to bow to ideologies that divide people and weaponize identity.
  • “Fascist” or “bigot” for saying there is such a thing as absolute truth.

We have normalized what God calls wicked and demonized what God calls holy.

Victims of Our Own Demise

Isaiah 3 shows people being crushed by the very system they built. Their own leaders mislead them. Their own sins devour them. Their own arrogance brings them down.

That’s exactly where we are.

People live in lies and then hate the truth for exposing it. Instead of asking, “Am I wrong?” the response is often rage, denial, and offense.

We are watching a generation that has been told, “You are your own god. Your feelings are the truth. Anyone who challenges you is hateful.” And now we see the fruit: anxiety, confusion, broken homes, addiction, rage, and despair.

People are victims of their own demise. Not because God failed them, but because they rejected the One who created them.

Calling a Spade a Spade (In Love)

The moment you stand up and say, “This is wrong. This is sin. This is not what God intended,” you risk being dragged, canceled, or slandered.

But truth doesn’t stop being truth because people don’t like it.

Jesus didn’t promise that truth would be comfortable—He promised that truth would set you free.

John 8:32 (NIV)
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

If you feel a sting reading this, don’t immediately assume it’s “religious oppression.” It may be the Holy Spirit exposing something that needs to die so that you can finally live.

The Good News in the Middle of Judgment

Isaiah 3 is heavy, but God’s heart is always redemption. His warnings are not to destroy us but to wake us up.

Jesus came into a world just as confused and broken as Isaiah’s—and ours. He did not come with another political strategy or self-help program. He came with a simple, powerful message:

“Repent and believe the good news.” (see Mark 1:15)

Repent means: turn around. Stop running your own show. Stop trusting the lies. Change your mind about who is Lord—because it’s not you. It’s not your feelings. It’s Jesus Christ.

Believe means: trust Him. Put your weight on Him. Depend on His work on the cross and His resurrection, not your own goodness, not your politics, not your performance.

Prayer of Repentance, Deliverance, and Surrender

If you sense God exposing lies in your life—if you’re tired of the chaos, confusion, and pretending—pray this from your heart:

Father God,
I come to You in the name of Jesus.
I confess that I have believed lies,
and I have tried to live life my own way.
Forgive me for my sin, my pride, my rebellion, and my selfishness.
Deliver me from every chain—addiction, lust, bitterness, hatred, fear, and confusion.
Jesus, I believe You died for my sins and rose again.
I repent and I surrender my life to You now.
Be my Lord. Be my Savior. Be my Truth.
Fill me with the Holy Spirit.
Give me courage to stand for what is right, even when the world hates it.
Set my mind, my heart, my body, and my future apart for You.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
