Keep Your Confidence: Eyes on the Prize
When you stumble, don’t throw away your confidence—anchor it in Christ and keep going. Confidence rooted in yourself fades; confidence rooted in God endures.
1) Confidence in the Lord, not in yourself
Our world shakes. God doesn’t. Let your assurance rest on His character, not your capacity.
Verses: Psalm 27:3 · Jeremiah 17:7–8 · Philippians 1:6
- Perspective stat: People with a clear faith anchor report stronger hope and resilience during crises.
- Action: Start each day with a 60-second “God, I trust You” prayer; write one promise you’re standing on.
2) Unforgiveness quietly erodes confidence
Unforgiveness clogs your prayer life and corrodes assurance.
Verses: Mark 11:25 · Matthew 6:14–15 · Ephesians 4:31–32
- Health stat: Forgiveness practices are associated with lower stress/anxiety and better well-being.
- Action: Name the person; say “I release them to God.” Pray blessing over them for 7 days.
3) Jealousy & bitterness kill confidence
Comparison steals joy and weakens faith; Scripture says envy brings disorder.
Verses: James 3:16 · Proverbs 14:30 · Galatians 5:25–26
- Mindset stat: Habitual social comparison correlates with lower confidence and higher depression risk.
- Action: Fast from comparison for 7 days; each time it flares, thank God for one grace in your own life.
4) Addictions & misplaced treasure drain confidence
What gets your money often gets your heart. Move your treasure toward God’s Kingdom and watch your heart follow.
Verses: Matthew 6:21 · 1 Corinthians 6:12 · Hebrews 12:1
- Reality stat: Compulsive spending (substances, gambling, etc.) undermines financial and emotional stability.
- Action: Create a “Kingdom line” in your budget; redirect one addictive expense into generosity this week.
5) Humility builds confidence in Christ
Church rhythms are good, but pride is not. God lifts the humble, not the haughty. Warn with love, not gossip.
Verses: Luke 14:11 · Philippians 2:3–4 · Galatians 6:1 · Ezekiel 3:18–19
- Outreach stat: Many seekers avoid church because they expect judgment; humility opens doors.
- Action: Replace critique with intercession: pray first, then speak truth in love, one-on-one.
6) Eternal focus restores confidence
Earthly noise shakes confidence; heaven-set minds steady it.
Verses: Colossians 3:2 · 2 Corinthians 4:17–18 · Hebrews 12:2
- Purpose stat: Purpose-driven people demonstrate stronger perseverance and well-being.
- Action: Schedule a daily 5-minute “eternity pause”—read one promise of heaven and pray it in.
7) Don’t be self-righteous—be doers, not just hearers
God isn’t impressed by religious performance; He wants obedient hearts that do His Word.
Verses: James 1:22–25 · Luke 18:9–14 · Micah 6:8
- Action: This week, pair every sermon note with one concrete step: call, serve, reconcile, give, forgive.
