Words Are Cheap — God Sees the Heart

We can post verses, sing songs, and still live like God isn’t real. That’s not faith; that’s performance.

“This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” — Matthew 15:8 (ESV)

God isn’t fooled by lip service. He looks straight at the heart (Jeremiah 17:9).

Why Some Choose Unbelief

For many, denying God isn’t about “lack of evidence.” It’s about avoiding accountability. If there’s no God, there’s no judgment. But sin always sends a bill.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 6:23 (NIV)

• Call rebellion “freedom.”
• Call selfishness “self-care.”
• Call darkness “authentic.”

Result? Anxiety, addiction, emptiness. “There is no peace,” says God, “for the wicked.” (Isaiah 57:21)

Reality Check: The Fruit of Our Ways

These aren’t random headlines; they’re symptoms of hearts drifting from God (see Romans 1:21–25).

Distrust, Division, and the Tax Squeeze

Public trust in Washington peaked near 75% in the late 1950s; as of 2024 it’s ~22%. Pew Research

• Income taxes (federal & state), property taxes, sales tax (sometimes on groceries).
• Fuel taxes: 18.4¢/gal gasoline, 24.4¢/gal diesel (federal) plus state. FHWA
• Fees, permits, and surcharges everywhere.

Meanwhile, we fight each other online—exactly what the enemy wants (Ephesians 6:11–12).

• Lip service vs. true devotion — Isaiah 29:13; Matthew 15:8–9
• Forgetting God in prosperity — Deuteronomy 8
• Complacency & injustice — Amos 5; Amos 6:1–7; Micah 6:8

• Friendship with the world — James 4:4

What If We Actually Obeyed?

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves…” — Philippians 2:3–4 (NIV)

• Share food → hunger declines (Matthew 25:35).
• Show up for family → homes begin to heal (Ephesians 5–6).
• Carry one another’s burdens → despair loses ground (Galatians 6:2).

The Call Is Now

• Repent — Acts 17:30–31
• Pursue holiness — Hebrews 12:14
• Come to Christ — 1 John 1:9

Prayer of Repentance, Deliverance, and Surrender

Father, I confess I’ve honored You with my lips while my heart wandered. I’ve excused sin and chased what cannot satisfy. Forgive me. Break pride, fear, and the chains that hold me. I repent and turn to Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit, teach me to walk in Your love, and let my life—not just my lips—declare that You are Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
