-Why Faith in Childhood Still Matters
By Steven Jones“Don’t Force Religion on Kids!”
We’ve all heard it. Maybe you’ve even thought it. But let’s pause—parents “force” all kinds of things on their kids because they matter:
- Vegetables for health
- Homework for growth
- Bedtimes for rest
- “Please & thank you” for character
If we care about bodies, minds, and manners, why not the soul—the part that shapes eternity?
Hypocrites in the Pews?
Church isn’t a museum for perfect people; it’s a hospital for sinners. The presence of hypocrites doesn’t disprove God—it proves we need Him.
What Proverbs 22:6 Really Means
This verse isn’t “drag your kids to church or else.” It’s:
- Live it — let them see Christ in you.
- Teach it — explain the why, not just the what.
- Show it — model repentance, prayer, and love.
When they hit rough patches at 20, 30, or 50, they’ll remember the way home because you planted something strong early on.
Reality check: Two-thirds of young adults leave church for a season, but most come back later (Lifeway Research). Why? Because somebody trained them, and the roots run deep.
The Modern Payoff: Faith Still Works
1) Faith = Mental Strength
Today’s epidemics are anxiety and burnout. Youth rooted in faith communities are 40% less likely to be depressed and 60% less likely to abuse drugs or alcohol (Harvard School of Public Health).
2) Faith = Career Boost
Spirituality fuels integrity, service, and purpose—qualities employers actually hire for. Adults raised in active faith are more likely to graduate, pursue advanced learning, and report higher job satisfaction (Barna, Pew).
3) Faith = Community & Networking
Church is like a values-driven “LinkedIn with prayer.” It offers mentors, accountability, and social capital that bless both family and career.
4) Faith = Longevity
Here’s a wild stat: people who attend church weekly are 36% less likely to die over a 28-year span (Harvard study). Forget the fountain of youth—faith works.
“But Kids Should Discover Faith on Their Own…”
Do we let kids “discover” dental hygiene at 25 or algebra at 30? Of course not. We train early so they can thrive.
Ephesians 6:4 calls parents to bring children up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Not force—formation.
Everyone Is a Child Somewhere
Whether you’re 6 or 60, God calls you His child. Sometimes the most mature thing we can do is start again—humbly, simply, with Jesus.
The Hard Truth: Why People Hate Jesus
Gracefully stated: The Lord Jesus Christ is the most mocked, hated, and ridiculed person in the world. Why? Because the devil knows it, the demons know it, and deep down—even you, dear reader—know it: Jesus Christ is Lord. He is God.
Those who live in darkness don’t like the light. When truth exposes the lie you’ve been living, it stings. That’s not cruelty; that’s cure. The Light of Christ reveals what darkness hides.
“This Feels Judgmental…” Or Is It Holy Conviction?
If words like these feel heavy, consider this: it may be that your spirit is experiencing holy conviction—God’s loving signal to let go of what you know you shouldn’t hold and to take hold of His calling for you.
You’ve been called for great works. Your gifts are meant to bless God, His Name, and His people. It would be an honor to walk with you. We love you, and we speak blessing over you in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Final Prayer: Repentance, Deliverance, & Surrender
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess I am a sinner in need of Your grace. I repent of living my own way. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I surrender my life to You.
Break every chain—sin, shame, fear, addiction, deception. Deliver me from every stronghold and fill me with the Holy Spirit. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. Thank You for forgiving me and making me a child of God. In Jesus’ mighty Name, Amen.
