Great Peace Isn’t a Luxury

—It’s Your Birthright

By Steven Jones

“Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.”

Psalm 119:165 (ESV)

True peace doesn’t come from comfort—it comes from alignment with God. When you’re led by the Holy Spirit, you’re no longer living under the letter of the law, but walking in the life of God. That’s why those who love His ways find a stability that the world can’t shake.

Led by the Spirit: Free, Not Lawless

“But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”

Galatians 5:18

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Galatians 5:22–23

“‘I have the right to do anything,’ you say—but not everything is beneficial.”

1 Corinthians 10:23

Life in the Spirit is not a permission slip to drift—it’s power to choose what builds. When you walk in the Spirit, you begin to want what God wants, and you bear fruit that no human law can condemn.

Unstoppable in God’s Will

When your steps are ordered by the Lord, He guards your path—mentally, spiritually, physically, and yes, even in complex legal situations. This is not a license to do wrong; it’s a promise that His wisdom and favor cover those who obey Him.

  • Guided steps: “The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.” — Psalm 37:23–24
  • Fearless presence: “Even though I walk through the valley… you are with me.” — Psalm 23:4
  • Fire & flood: “When you pass through the waters… when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.” — Isaiah 43:2
  • Freedom from condemnation: “The law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free…” — Romans 8:1–2

New Idols: Screens

Screens aren’t “bad” by themselves, but they easily become a new form of idol—soaking attention, shaping identity, and stealing peace. (We’ll dig deeper into modern idolatry in tomorrow’s post.)

Walking Free: Biblical Solutions to Today’s Problems

Challenge God’s Word Response
Addiction (substances, porn, screens) “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.”Galatians 5:1
“All things are lawful… but I will not be dominated by anything.”1 Corinthians 6:12
Confess, cut off access points, invite accountability, and fill the space with Scripture and service.
Anxiety, panic, fear “Do not be anxious… the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds.”Philippians 4:6–7 Trade panic for prayer. Bring every worry to God, daily, specifically.
Legal/behavioral pitfalls “The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.”Psalm 37:23–24 Obey God promptly, tell the truth, make amends where needed, and seek wise counsel.
Spiritual drift & confusion “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”Psalm 119:105 Set a daily rhythm: Word, worship, and fellowship. Your feet follow your focus.
Condemnation & shame “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”Romans 8:1–2 Confess quickly, believe fully, and keep walking. Don’t let yesterday define today.

Tomorrow’s Foreshadow

In the Bible, people made their idols with their own hands and bowed to them (see Isaiah 44:9–20; Psalm 115:4–8). Tomorrow, we’ll look at how our modern “handmade” tech and screens can become the same kind of idols—and how to take them off the throne.

Call to Courage

Follow God with bravery. Walk in the Spirit. You are not fragile—you are free. In Christ, you’re an unstoppable force for good, anchored in a peace the world can’t understand and cannot take away.

Prayer of Repentance, Deliverance & Surrender

Father, I repent of living by my own strength and chasing counterfeit peace. I surrender to Jesus Christ and ask for the fullness of Your Spirit. Produce in me love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Order my steps, protect my mind and body, and keep my heart steadfast. Make me bold and obedient, unstoppable in Your will. In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.
