𪨠â A Wake-Up Call from Matthew 7
Scripture Focus: Matthew 7
By: Steven Jones II | UponThisRock.Church
âEnter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.â
â Matthew 7:13â14 (NIV)

đ Introduction: In a World That Says âDo You,â Jesus Says âFollow Meâ
We live in a world that celebrates your truth, your path, your vibe. Culture says, âJust be a good person,â âDonât judge,â and âFollow your heart.â
But Jesus drops a hard truth in Matthew 7: the wide road is packed, and it leads to destruction. Only a few find the narrow way that leads to lifeâand that road requires humility, obedience, and surrender.

â ď¸ Donât Be Fooled by Fruitless Faith
In verses 15â20, Jesus warns:
âWatch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheepâs clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves… every good tree bears good fruit.â
Today, we see spiritual influencers with massive followings preaching a gospel of comfort, not conviction. Some use Jesus’ name to build brands instead of the Kingdom. Others say âlove is loveâ while ignoring repentance and holiness.
But Jesus is clear: you will know them by their fruit.
- Is there transformation?
- Is there repentance?
- Is there truth, or just empty inspiration?
A tree might look alive but still be rotten at the root.
đ° World Events Through Matthew 7
- Moral confusion in education & entertainment: Schools now teach gender identity fluidity while censoring biblical truth. The world says the broad path is love. Jesus says true love tells the truthâand the road to life is narrow.
- Celebrity Christianity: Many public figures name-drop God while promoting ungodly lifestyles. Jesus warned that many will say âLord, Lordâ but not do the will of the Father.
- National deception: Politicians quote Scripture to win votes but pass laws that destroy families. Verse 21 is a direct hit: âNot everyone who says to me, âLord, Lord,â will enter the kingdom of heaven…â
Itâs time to stop mistaking appearance for authenticity.
𪨠Build Your House on the Rock
Jesus closes Matthew 7 with the parable of the wise and foolish builders:
âEveryone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.â
â Matthew 7:24
In a time of spiritual earthquakesâglobal fear, war, deception, and rebellionâthe only house that will stand is the one built on the rock of obedience.
Donât just hear the Word. Do it. Live it. Build on it.
đ§ Call to Action: Choose the Narrow Gate
- Examine your path. Are you on the broad road with the crowd, or the narrow one with Christ?
- Inspect your fruit. Is your life marked by repentance, prayer, and love grounded in truth?
- Test your foundation. Are you building on emotions, opinions, and trendsâor on the teachings of Jesus?
đ Final Prayer
Lord Jesus, we want to walk the narrow pathâeven when itâs unpopular, even when it costs us something. Help us to bear good fruit, avoid deception, and build our lives on Your Word. Keep us rooted in You, the rock that never crumbles. In Your holy name we pray, amen.
